Originally conceived in 2021, Vaitere is a proposal for a 90-metre ROPAX vessel designed to operate in the waters of French Polynesia. She’s a hybrid ship designed to carry passengers in a level of comfort close to the conditions found a cruise ship, while retaining considerable hold capacity to transport large volumes of RORO freight.
An extremely versatile vessel, she would be the Swiss Army knife of maritime transport, aimed at islands and other isolated territories where ferry sailings are infrequent and require much operational flexibility.
This ROPAX could be fitted with up to three OceanWings wingsails to harness the power of the trade winds which blow steadily throughout the year, thus considerably reducing CO² emissions. Fuel consumption would also be reduced, another major advantage in regions where marine diesel is costly.
Hybrid and versatile, Vaitere’s hull is designed for high performance both under sail, with its ability to generate resistance to drift, and under power, when the ship is sailing more on an even keel.
