EMC Multi

Developed under the aegis of Watever, an NGO founded by Marc Van Peteghem and Yves Marre, the EMC Multi is a proposal for the future of merchant shipping. In sum, an 80 m trimaran with a 17 m beam and hybrid propulsion which is reliable and economic, and contributes little to atmospheric pollution.

This first EMC (which stands for “Eol Marine Colportage”) was designed for service between the islands of the Pacific Ocean and other similar regions of our planet where steady winds blow. Once again VPLP leverages the power generated by two wingsails to greatly reduce the vessel’s reliance on fossil fuel. The sails are just under 60 m high and have a maximum surface area of 950 m².

By proposing this type of vessel for transporting passengers and freight, VPLP and Watever aim to convince decision-makers that, in light of the depletion of certain energy resources, now is the time to start a new chapter in the shipping industry.
