Initially presented at the 2016 Monaco Yacht Show, Ampersand has since been updated with a rigid wingsail. Ampersand is the name given to the typographic symbol “&” and aptly sums up VPLP’s vision for this 100’ monohull sailing boat: a combination of performance at sea and luxury alongside, tradition and modernity. Her hull design was directly inspired by the very powerful Comanche, whose wins include the Rolex Fastnet Race and the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, and the work done by VPLP on 60’ IMOCAs (chines forward and racing sail plan).
Her uncluttered deck and exposed helm stations, as well as two large bench seats and a low coachroof, suggest the elegance of classic racing yachts. Below decks, the interiors provide all the luxury and comfort a discerning owner would expect, including a large master cabin and two guest cabins. There are also three crew cabins in the stern. With Ampersand, VPLP wanted to define a trend, set out a path for the sailing boats of tomorrow, and demonstrate the firm’s versatility in designing competitive mono and multihull blue-water cruisers.
