The secrets of a very typical hull

Architect at VPLP Design since 2010, specializing in the design of monohull hulls (Imoca, Figaro Beneteau 3, Comanche , etc.), Daniele Capua deciphers the bias of the Malizia hull . Following the difficulties encountered by skippers in heavy seas during the 2020 Vendée Globe, many Imoca bows have been planed and some 2022 generation boats have opted for less stretched shapes. “ Working […]

VELA

VELA AERIAL

Looking to develop a fast sailing ship to provide a shipping service between Europe and the USA, French start-up VELA asked VPLP Design to explore the range of possibilities in this fledgling sector of zero-carbon transport of goods by sea. This led to the design of a 65 m schooner-rigged trimaran which can carry 350 tonnes between Nouvelle-Aquitaine (France) and New York in under two weeks, including loading and unloading.

Aquila 42

For our first collaboration with the Aquila shipyard, VPLP Design has developed a boat that lives up to the spirit of the existing range, but which also offers a fresh look at the hull shape, the style and the accommodations.

MOD 70:
New life for thoroughbred trimarans

Thirteen years after their launch, the MOD 70s continue to plough the seas and the number of dedicated racing events is increasing, much to the delight of their passionate and demanding owners. VPLP Design, the architect of these one designs, is collaborating with several vessels in the fleet to enhance their performance without betraying the philosophy of these sturdy and competitive multihulls. Vincent Lauriot Prévost and Quentin Lucet explain.

Cruising Catamarans :
Getting bigger all the time !

Greater space, the comfort of a flatter ride, and high average speeds: the benefits of catamaran ownership are well known, but they’re also enhanced proportionally to hull length. As a result, large catamarans are growing in number and attracting new ownership profiles from a variety of backgrounds. VPLP Design continues to play an active and innovative role in this market, one which we greatly contributed to developing. Marc Van Peteghem and Mathias Maurios discuss background, news and predictions.
