She marked the rise of <\/span><b>the second generation of ORMA trimarans<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> designed by VPLP. Sistership of Alain Gautier\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Broc\u00e9liande<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (launched the previous year), <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Groupama\u00a01<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> featured floats from Laurent Bourgnon\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Primagaz<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>small foils<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a pivoting mast and sharper bows than her ancestors. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Europe 1 New Man Star 2000 - Franck Cammas sur Groupama 1\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/PolgNxtpKwQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Franck Cammas was 25 at the time and had absolutely no multihull experience when he took the helm of his first trimaran. But it only took him a few short months to start winning. From 1998 to 2001, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Groupama\u00a01<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> entered <\/span><b>20 races and achieved 17 podium places<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2026 and then made a series of wins in the ORMA Grand Prix.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10862\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10862\" style=\"width: 701px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-10862\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/1998\/01\/groupama-trimaran-franck-cammas-768x504-1.jpg\" alt=\" width=\"701\" height=\"460\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10862\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u00a9 Groupama<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Throughout her career the trimaran was optimized so she could carry a crew of ten for the Grand Prix without comprising her capacity for sailing short-handed or even solo.
