She was VPLP\u2019s first 60\u2019 ORMA to be designed using a <\/span><b>hull test tank<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in particular for the development of her floats. Sold to the Gitana Team in 2004, she was renamed <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gitana\u00a011<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and achieved a certain maturity thanks to the improvements made by Baron Benjamin de Rothschild\u2019s team. By slightly raising her floats, reducing her beam and carrying out various modifications to her rudders, central hull and cockpit, the team transformed her into a <\/span><b>thoroughbred for solo, offshore racing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10843\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10843\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-10843\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2001\/01\/belgacom-orma-vplp-768x506-1.jpg\" alt=\" width=\"700\" height=\"462\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10843\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u00a9 Beno\u00eet Stichelbaut\/DPPI<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fred Le Peutrec, Lo\u00efck Peyron and Lionel Lemonchois took turns at the helm, with Lemonchois entering her in the<\/span><b> 2006 Route du Rhum<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cMy boat doesn\u2019t sail, she flies!\u201d claimed the latter, finishing much earlier than expected. Even he seemed surprised by her performance. With <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gitana\u00a011,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> he smashed Laurent Bourgnon\u2019s record by more than four days, taking just seven days and seventeen hours to complete the course. Her tremendous pace left the rest of the fleet standing. Every minute of every hour, the boat was pushed to the limit. <\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10841\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10841\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-10841\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2001\/01\/belgacom-orma-vplp-design-768x506-1.jpg\" alt=\" width=\"700\" height=\"462\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10841\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u00a9 Beno\u00eet Stichelbaut\/DPPI<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2010 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gitana\u00a011<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was<\/span><b> extended to<\/b> <b>77\u2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to enter the Route du Rhum in the Ultim class, Yann Guichard skippering her to fourth place.
