{"id":20307,"date":"2001-01-31T11:30:25","date_gmt":"2001-01-31T10:30:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev2024.vplp.fr\/projet\/geronimo\/"},"modified":"2025-07-22T14:22:27","modified_gmt":"2025-07-22T12:22:27","slug":"geronimo","status":"publish","type":"projet","link":"https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/en\/racing\/geronimo\/","title":{"rendered":"Geronimo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><i>Geronimo<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> then <\/span><b><i>Sodebo Ultim<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> then <\/span><b><i>Actual Leader<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> then <\/span><b><i>Brest Ultim Sailing<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Commissioned for <\/span><b>Olivier de Kersauson<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and built at the Multiplast yard in 2001, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Geronimo <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">prefigured the new generation of <\/span><b>record-breaking machines of over 100\u2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 soon to be known as \u201cUltims\u201d \u2013 that VPLP was beginning to design in the first couple of years of the 2000s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Built entirely in carbon fibre and honeycomb core, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Geronimo<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was given a very simple remit: <\/span><b>win the Jules Verne Trophy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. She achieved this goal three years after her launch, in the winter of 2003\u201304, setting a time of a little over sixty-three days. There followed numerous ocean records, including crossing the Pacific in both directions (San Francisco\u2013Yokohama and back).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-10832\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2001\/01\/trimaran-ultim-geronimo-vplp-design-768x500-1.jpg\" alt=\" width=\" height=\"455\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sold in 2013 to Thomas Coville, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Geronimo<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was considerably modified and renamed <\/span><b><i>Sodebo Ultim.<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> She then embarked on a brilliant new career which included several attempts at the solo round the world record, her skipper achieving his goal in 2016.
