VPLP\u2019s remit was to design <\/span><b>the largest racing multihull ever built<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (40 metres long) which a crew could sail anywhere in the world, without compromising on speed and power.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10629\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10629\" style=\"width: 701px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-10629\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/01\/maxi-banque-populaire-5-vplp-1.jpg\" alt=\" width=\"701\" height=\"467\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10629\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u00a9 Beno\u00eet Stichelbaut<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Banque Populaire wanted to build a multihull sailing boat which could <\/span><b>beat all the major records<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. And they achieved their goal, because Maxi Banque Populaire\u00a0V broke the Transatlantic Sailing Record (less than four days), the 24 Hour Distance Record (more than 900 nautical miles), the Transmediterranean Sailing Record and, with skipper Lo\u00efck Peyron, won the <\/span><b>Jules Verne Trophy in 2012<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Troph\u00e9e Jules -Verne - le film\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Wiph3IY0NAY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sold in 2013 to <\/span><b>Yann Guichard<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Dona Bertarelli<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Banque Populaire V<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was renamed <\/span><b><i>Spindrift\u00a02<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The following year Yann Guichard sailed her single-handed in the Route du Rhum! Securing second place behind Lo\u00efck Peyron was an immense achievement.
