When <\/span>Vincent Riou<\/b> commissioned this boat, he had one overriding caveat: <\/span>no compromises on speed<\/b>. He had enormous experience sailing IMOCAs, and he wanted an extreme machine. Optimized from keel to truck, <\/span>PRB<\/span><\/i> was laid up in the <\/span>same mould as<\/b> Safran<\/i><\/b>, her hard-chined hull having almost vertical sides. However <\/span>her rigging was radically different <\/b>with a rotating wing-mast supported by outriggers.<\/span><\/p>\n

PRB<\/span><\/i> was designed with <\/span>solo racing and circumnavigating<\/b> in mind, in particular her deck layout. She was built in three different yards and assembled by CDK Technologies, resulting in <\/span>one of the lightest IMOCAs ever built<\/b>. Twice champion of the Transat Jacques Vabre (2013, 2015), <\/span>PRB<\/span><\/i> was <\/span>optimized relentlessly<\/b> throughout her career. In 2018 Juan Kouyoumdjian had her <\/span>fitted with foils<\/b> and raced her to fourth place in the Route du Rhum.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2019 she was briefly named <\/span>Ark\u00e9a Paprec<\/span><\/i> and, under the command of S\u00e9bastien Simon, claimed victory in the Bermudes\u00a01000 Race before reverting to <\/span>PRB<\/span><\/i> for the second half of the season when she made second place in the Transat Jacques Vabre with <\/span>Kevin Escoffier<\/b> at the helm. Serious damage suffered in <\/span>the 2020 Vend\u00e9e Globe brought her career to an abrupt end<\/b>, sinking in a very short space of time.
