Virbac Paprec\u00a03<\/i><\/b> then <\/span>Hugo Boss<\/i><\/b> then <\/span>Bastide Otio<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Virbac Paprec 3<\/span><\/i> belongs to the second<\/span> generation of IMOCAs<\/b> designed by VPLP in collaboration with the engineers at Guillaume Verdier\u2019s firm. Drawing on his experience sailing a monohull round the world during the Vend\u00e9e Globe, <\/span>Jean-Pierre Dick<\/b> wanted to <\/span>simplify the boat as much as possible<\/b>, removing all unnecessary weight to make her lighter.<\/span><\/p>\n

Considerable work went into designing these sixty-footers, for example VPLP <\/span>drafted seventy hull shapes<\/b> and then put four of them through their paces in the test tank and in a virtual circumnavigation. Beamier than her predecessors, her hull has very taut lines.<\/span><\/p>\n

Built by Cookson Boats in New Zealand, <\/span>Virbac Paprec\u00a03<\/span><\/i> notched up <\/span>a couple of double-handed victories<\/b> in just a few months, winning the Barcelona World Race (with Lo\u00efck Peyron) and the Transat Jacques Vabre (with J\u00e9r\u00e9mie Beyou).<\/span><\/p>\n

After a <\/span>4th place in the 2012\u201313 Vend\u00e9e Globe with Jean-Pierre Dick at the helm<\/b>, she was sold to Alex Thomson and renamed <\/span>Hugo Boss<\/span><\/i>. He entered her in the 2014 Barcelona World Race, taking the lead until a dismasting put paid to his ambitions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sponsored by Bastide Otio, <\/span>Kito de Pavant<\/b> purchased her for the 2016<\/span> Vend\u00e9e Globe, his third. <\/span>He was forced to abandon her in the Indian Ocean<\/b> after hitting an unidentified floating object.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
