{"id":20263,"date":"2014-01-31T16:46:05","date_gmt":"2014-01-31T15:46:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev2024.vplp.fr\/projet\/sodebo-ultim\/"},"modified":"2026-03-30T15:35:32","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T13:35:32","slug":"sodebo-ultim","status":"publish","type":"projet","link":"https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/en\/racing\/sodebo-ultim\/","title":{"rendered":"MACSF"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b><i>Sodebo Ultim\u2019<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> then <\/span><b><i>Ultim ActualLeader<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> then <\/span><b><i>Brest Ultim Sailing <\/i><\/b><i>then<\/i><b><i> Mieux <\/i><\/b><i>then <\/i><b><i>MACSF<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Thomas Coville<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> came to VPLP with an exciting project to<\/span><b> rebuild <\/b><b><i>Geronimo<\/i><\/b><b> with the aim of winning the 2014 Route du Rhum<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.The firm, having originally designed the trimaran for Olivier de Kersauson, more than rose to the challenge.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/sodebo-ultim-thomas-coville-768x511-1.jpg\" alt=\" width=\" class=\"wp-image-10205\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>\u00a9 Yvan Zedda\/Sodebo<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So what went into turning that grey trimaran, precursor of the Ultim class, into one of the most competitive maxi-trimarans in single-handed racing? First of all <\/span><b>replacing the central hull<\/b> <b>with a new design<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which focused on single-handed sailing and, at 31&nbsp;metres long, was 3&nbsp;metres more than the previous one.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Sodebo Ultim&#039; : de G\u00e9ronimo au record du Tour du monde\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/irvkJvIczfY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Next, the beams were reinforced so rudders and foils \u2013 which <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Geronimo<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> had been lacking \u2013 could be added to the floats. The forward 9&nbsp;metres of the latter were also rebuilt, adding powerful raked bows.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And with the addition of a new mast and changes to the original boom, <\/span><b><i>Geronimo <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">became <\/span><b><i>Sodebo Ultim\u2019<\/i><\/b><b>, weighing in 6 tonnes lighter!<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/actual-leader-ultim-vplp-design-1-768x611-1.jpg\" alt=\" width=\" class=\"wp-image-10207\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>\u00a9 Thierry Martinez<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After a difficult start in the 2014 Route du Rhum (collision with a freighter and retirement), <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sodebo Ultim\u2019<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> would go on to enjoy <\/span><b>a magnificent career<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Her achievements include the solo round the world record (49 days, 3 hours), the transatlantic record (4 days, 11 hours) and victory in the 2017 Transat Jacques Vabre \u2013 all in the space of twelve months.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Collectif-mieux.jpg\" alt=\" width=\" class=\"wp-image-10209\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>\u00a9 Collectif Mieux<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following a period under the sponsorship of Actual with <\/span><b>Yves Le Blevec<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the controls, she was bought by the company Brest Ultim Sailing in 2021. <\/span>Under the name of the corporate collective <strong>MIEUX, Arthur le vaillant<\/strong> takes the helm of the Ultim for the Route du Rhum 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"490\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Ultim-MACSF-700x490px.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22078\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Ultim-MACSF-700x490px.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Ultim-MACSF-700x490px-300x210.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>\u00a9 Adrien Cordier<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The trimaran was then renamed <strong>MACSF <\/strong>when <strong>Guirec Soud\u00e9e<\/strong> bought her in 2025, with one goal in mind: to break the solo record for sailing around the world in reverse (<em>against the prevailing winds and currents<\/em>).
