Charal (2018<\/strong>)<\/strong> then Teamwork<\/strong>.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Launched in late summer\u00a02018, Charal<\/i> was the first IMOCA to be designed specifically for foils<\/b>. Her skipper J\u00e9r\u00e9mie Beyou wanted her to have a certain versatility<\/b>, to be able to perform on other points of sail than reaching.<\/p>\n

While her architects reduced her freeboard in the bow and the stern, the midships section had to be higher for her to pass the stability tests. <\/span>Charal<\/span><\/i> is the result of some very advanced studies, in particular relating to the CFD of light displacement craft, with her <\/span>enormous foils<\/b> taking the load, attention being focused on <\/span>limiting hydrodynamic drag<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was clear from her earliest trials on the water that <\/span>Charal<\/span><\/i>\u2019s potential for generating power was propelling these types of boat into <\/span>a new era of \u201csemi-flight\u201d<\/b>. In the lead up to the 2020 Vend\u00e9e Globe, J\u00e9r\u00e9mie Beyou and his team tested <\/span>three pairs of foils<\/b> and had some modifications made to the bow. Unfortunately an incident at the outset prevented the skipper from playing a leading role in the race. After the Vend\u00e9e Globe the <\/span>bow was once again modified<\/b> to reduce digging in, to better bounce off the water. The boat is expected to go on sale in 2022<\/span><\/p>\n

Teamwork<\/strong> buy the boat in 2021 and entrusts it to Justine Mettraux<\/strong> with a view to her participation to the Vend\u00e9e Globe in 2024. The project is hosted by Beyou Racing, the team that already take care of this IMOCA.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mis \u00e0 l\u2019eau \u00e0 la fin de l\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 2018, Charal est le premier Imoca con\u00e7u autour des foils.
