Ciela Village<\/i><\/b> then<\/em> <\/span>Leyton <\/i><\/b>then <\/i>Viabilis<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once <\/span>foils were approved<\/b> on the Multi50s in 2016 (renamed Ocean Fifties in 2021), the class enjoyed a veritable revolution, giving the 50\u2019 trimarans the potential to hit <\/span>40 knots<\/b> in certain conditions. Impressed with his first season at the helm of the former <\/span>Cr\u00eapes Whaou! 2<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Thierry Bouchard<\/b> seized the occasion to commission a brand new Multi50 for the 2018 Route du Rhum. The result was <\/span>Ciela Village<\/span><\/i>,<\/span> the first to be designed specifically for foiling<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her second important feature was the <\/span>skipper\u2019s protection around the helm station<\/b> and the sail controls, the latter concentrated on the central hull and within easy reach of the pedestal and the winches.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the addition of foils, the Multi50s became<\/span> even more focused on offshore racing<\/b>, the speeds attained making sailing conditions more difficult than before. Also, <\/span>Ciela Village<\/span><\/i> was fitted with <\/span>two unique rudders on her floats.<\/b> Removing the central rudder resulted in real gains in terms of weight and drag, even with the increased surface area of the float rudders.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

With <\/span>Sam Goodchild<\/b> taking the helm in 2021, the trimaran made quite a splash under her new name, <\/span>Leyton<\/strong><\/span><\/i>, by winning the first three events of the new Pro Sailing Tour!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2023, Pierre Quiroga<\/strong> – winner of La Solitaire du Figaro 2021 – takes the helm of the re-named trimaran Viabilis<\/em> to compete in the major races of the Ocean Fifty circuit, including the Route du Rhum 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
