She embodies everything that VPLP has learned about the design of Ultim trimarans, expertise leveraged by <\/span><b>Fran\u00e7ois Gabart<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and his team <\/span><b>MerConcept<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in their endeavour to build <\/span><b>a boat capable of flying over the ocean for long periods<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"469\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Trimaran-svr-lazartigue-2-1024x469.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19153\" style=\"width:758px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Trimaran-svr-lazartigue-2-1024x469.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Trimaran-svr-lazartigue-2-300x137.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Trimaran-svr-lazartigue-2-768x352.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Trimaran-svr-lazartigue-2.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>\u00a9 Maxime Horlaville<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Macif&nbsp;100<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was designed to sail on average with 20% of her central hull in the water, there was no doubt that her successor\u2019s goal was to <\/span><b>achieve \u201cdry-hull\u201d sailing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cWe <\/span><b>started out completely from scratch<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d says Xavier Guilbaud, project leader at VPLP, \u201cto the point that we seriously thought about making her a catamaran!<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the end we kept the trimaran for safety reasons and because it\u2019s also the least extreme option.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/SVR-LAZARTIGUE_-Guillaume-Gatefait-e1763049175493.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19154\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>\u00a9 Guillaume Gatefait<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This didn\u2019t prevent the design team from choosing certain radical options, in particular for the aerodynamics of the platform. For instance, <\/span><b>the traditional canopy over the helm station has been ditched, while the living quarters and the cockpit have been integrated into the central hull.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The boom is as low as possible and reduces windage to a minimum.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/228178799_134332915516248_394386592492616211_n-768x398-1.jpg\" alt=\" width=\" class=\"wp-image-9653\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>\u00a9 Guillaume Gatefait<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">VPLP opted for a platform featuring <\/span><b>straight beams with less pronounced downward curves<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> so as to improve the efficiency of the after fairings and thus reduce even further the aerodynamic drag.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"L\u2019\u0153il du skipper -
