Developed in close collaboration with <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/michelettipartners.com\/it\/yacht-design\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Micheletti and Partners,<\/em> <\/a><em>this outsize project remains focused on the elements and ethical considerations by virtue of its zero-carbon propulsion system. <\/em><strong>\u201cA rational concept, not a folly,\u201d<\/strong> <em>say VPLP partner naval architect <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/quentin-lucet-b502535a\/\">Quentin Lucet<\/a><\/strong> and designer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/yannprummel\/\"><strong>Yann Prummel<\/strong>.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"[Tyrena] VPLP Design and Micheletti &amp; Partners unveil the largest wing yacht concept ever seen\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/v4EuXK9ni64?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n<p>Project <em>Tyrena <\/em>was born of a desire by VPLP Design and the Italian design agency Micheletti and Partners \u201c<em><strong>to pool their complementary expertise and offer an innovative alternative to traditional megayachts<\/strong><\/em>\u201d, says Quentin Lucet. <em>\u201cWe started from scratch, a blank page<\/em>.<em> We weren\u2019t doing this as part of a competition or tender, <strong>so we had complete freedom<\/strong>.<\/em> <em>In our discussions with Micheletti and Partners we first asked ourselves what services could we provide to a client who wanted an exceptional yacht?<\/em>\u201d <strong>Very quickly the focus turned to catamarans<\/strong> because of their <em>\u201cstability and performance, and to avoid having to stack spaces like you do on a monohull.<\/em>\u201d <strong>The length of 76 metres was determined by the limits of building in aluminium<\/strong>, several shipyards being consulted on this particular question.     <br\/> <br\/>This initial premise left the field wide open for the designers to bring their specific skills to the table. <em>\u201cWe met up with the Micheletti teams on several occasions,\u201d says designer Yann Prummel. \u201cThey came to our Paris offices, and we went to visit their agency in Milan. We work with the <strong>same tools, and share a common approach to design<\/strong>. It was very exciting and spontaneous from the outset.\u201d  <\/em>Initially, VPLP Design defined the main thrust of the project, drawing on 40 years\u2019 experience in naval architecture and the tools developed in-house which, according to Quentin Lucet, \u201c<em><strong>contributed a well thought-out and sustained architectural argument<\/strong><\/em>. <em>Some might find the size impressive, but we have the tools and the methods. The key figures involving mass, structural weight and performance are the fruit of particularly precise and rational design work.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-tyrena-comme-la-mer-tyrrhenienne-un-trait-d-union-nbsp\"><strong>Tyrena, like the Tyrrhenian Sea,<br\/>an intermediary <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>On this basis <strong>the Micheletti teams, who are accustomed to organizing very large spaces on land, took on the responsibility of developing the layout. <\/strong><em>\u201cThey brought with them a vision and considerable meticulousness regarding the <\/em>general arrangement,\u201d says Yann Prummel, to make this very long and low-lying catamaran (much lower in the water than many monohulls) an exceptional vessel for hosting <strong>12 guests and 30 crew members<\/strong>. \u201c<em>The guiding principle was to eradicate the pyramidal effect that plagues megayachts to develop <strong>a vessel which integrates its surroundings<\/strong>.<\/em>\u201d  <br\/> <br\/>Installing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oceanwings.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">two OceanWings wingsails<\/a>, each 363 m2, at the centre of the boat significantly lightens its silhouette, creating an <strong>instantly recognizable deck line from stem to stern<\/strong>, and from every viewpoint. This hitherto unique arrangement was made possible by the usable depth of 8 metres and the considerable distance between the two hulls, whose profiles do not interfere with each other. \u201c<em><strong>We are well aware of the power of these sails<\/strong> because they are the same size as the ones on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/en\/maritime\/canopee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Canop\u00e9e<\/a><\/em>,\u201d says Quentin Lucet. \u201c<em>We expect a cruising speed of 12 knots in 17 knots of wind.<\/em>\u201d   <br\/> <br\/>At moorings, <em>Tyrena <\/em><strong>offers unparalleled access to the sea from the stern <\/strong>thanks to its Venetian platform deck which occupies the available breadth of the vessel and can be lowered to sea level. There is also a very original private area forward. \u201c<em>It\u2019s a space for sharing, located between the two hulls, and enjoys a terrace-like design that brings its occupants closer to the elements, while sheltering them from the sun and unwanted gazes,<\/em>\u201d says Yann Prummel, who also highlights the <strong>catamaran\u2019s energy independence <\/strong>while at moorings.  <em><em>\u201c<\/em>It\u2019s a venue for enjoying private moments, or perhaps even putting on a cultural event,\u201d says Quentin Lucet. <strong>\u201cIts design was inspired by ancient theatres which served to bring citizens together.<\/strong> <\/em>\u201d <br\/> <br\/>No doubt this extraordinary catamaran, which takes its name from the Tyrrhenian Sea, an intermediary of sorts, will be turning heads when it goes on show in Monaco.<\/p>\n\n<p id=\"h-\"><\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In a multihull yacht market that has now reached maturity, VPLP Design is presenting at the Monaco Yacht Show 2026 Tyrena, a 75-metre aluminium catamaran propelled by two OceanWings .
