Let\u2019s hear what they have to say about them.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #6c879a;\">FIRST GENERATION\/VEND\u00c9E GLOBE 2008\u20132009<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>#1 QUEGUINER-LEUC<\/strong><strong>\u00c9<\/strong><strong>MIE ESPOIR\u00a0(2007):<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cShe was the first in the series, launched as\u00a0<em>Safran<\/em>\u00a0with Marc Guillemot at the helm. She remains a reference in terms of performance and the impact her design had on the IMOCAs.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>#2 LE SOUFFLE DU NORD (2007):<\/strong>\u00a0\u201c<em>Safran<\/em>\u2019s little sister, built at the same time for Kito and Groupe Bel, with identical hull and structure. Two Vend\u00e9e Globes, two withdrawals: this time it\u2019s going to be the one!\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>#3\u00a0PRB (2009):<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cWith the same hull as\u00a0<em>Safran<\/em>, Vincent Riou\u2019s machine has been optimized in every detail to become the most dangerous non-foiler in the fleet\u2026 and the only VPLP\/Verdier design to keep the same skipper and the same sponsor!\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #6c879a;\">SECOND GENERATION\/VEND\u00c9E GLOBE 2012\u20132013<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>#4\u00a0BASTIDE OTIO\u00a0(2010):<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cFormerly\u00a0<em>Virbac-Paprec\u00a0III<\/em>, then\u00a0<em>Hugo Boss<\/em>, she\u2019s the first of our second generation IMOCAs with a new, more powerful hull. She knows the route because she won the Barcelona World Race in 2011 and made fourth place\u2009\u2013\u2009minus her keel\u2009\u2013\u2009in the following Vend\u00e9e Globe.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>#5\u00a0MAITRE COQ (2010):<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cAh, that\u2019s the old\u00a0<em>Foncia<\/em>, we can still see Michel Desjoyeaux\u2019s influence in her deck layout, his famous \u201cgull wing\u201d, and a slightly different structure. J\u00e9r\u00e9mie Beyou added a pair of foils to her this year.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>#6\u00a0SMA (2011):<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cFormerly\u00a0<em>Macif<\/em>, she had a brilliant career under the command of Fran\u00e7ois Gabart, notching up victories in the Vend\u00e9e Globe and the Route du Rhum. Back then she was\u00a0<em>Foncia<\/em>\u2019s sister-ship, optimized in terms of weight.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #6c879a;\">THIRD GENERATION\/VEND\u00c9E GLOBE 2016\u20132017<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>#7\u00a0SAFRAN (2015):<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cJust like 2007, this\u00a0<em>Safran<\/em>\u00a0leads the way in the new generation of foiling IMOCAs. She\u2019s not a continuation of\u00a0<em>Macif<\/em>\u00a0because we started out from scratch, as we did for the first\u00a0<em>Safran<\/em>, which had a great influence on us.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>#8\u00a0BANQUE POPULAIRE\u00a0VIII (2015):<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cHer hull is identical to\u00a0<em>Safran<\/em>\u2019s, but the appendages and the shape of the deck are different.\u00a0<em>Banque Populaire<\/em>\u2019s technical team were very involved throughout the process to optimize the boat, one of the most accomplished in this Vend\u00e9e Globe.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>#9\u00a0EDMOND DE ROTHSCHILD (2015):<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cUnlike\u00a0<em>Safran<\/em>\/<em>Banque Populaire<\/em>, which are made for reaching, the design brief from the Gitana team focused on flexibility. We did a lot of work on the layout of the deck, the centre of gravity and trimming the gear.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>#10\u00a0STMICHEL-VIRBAC (2015):<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cJean-Pierre is the only skipper to order two boats from us. His third IMOCA is a sister-ship to\u00a0<em>Edmond de Rothschild<\/em>, but there are numerous differences, in particular the foils.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>#11\u00a0HUGO BOSS (2015):<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cAlex Thomson wanted a boat that sails \u2018fucking fast\u2019, and he got one! In design, she is the most radical of the foilers with less beam and greater tumblehome in the bow.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>#12\u00a0NO WAY BACK (2015):<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cEx\u00a0<em>Vento\u00a0di Sardegna<\/em>, she used to be skippered by Andrea Mura before Pieter Heerema bought her.
