It had been a heavy schedule comprising the five events of the <\/span><u style=\"font-weight: 400;\">France Elite offshore racing championship<\/u><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and marked by an outstanding Solitaire du Figaro. Vincent Lauriot-Pr\u00e9vost reviews the first year of the firm\u2019s one-design foiler.<\/span><br style=\"font-weight: 400;\" \/><br style=\"font-weight: 400;\" \/><b><strong><span style=\"color: #698698;\">PEOPLE LIKE THE BOAT<\/span><\/strong><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cFeedback on the whole has been positive: people like the boat and the crews are happy with her performance.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There was a moment when we asked ourselves if we weren\u2019t exaggerating her potential for opening up the field, but we weren\u2019t disappointed. Figaro\u00a03 showed us that she can hold trajectories suitable for breaking in the skippers, the very open courses helping too.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She\u2019s proving herself to be a great tool for the sailor\u2019s trade.\u201d<\/span><br style=\"font-weight: 400;\" \/><br style=\"font-weight: 400;\" \/><b><strong><span style=\"color: #698698;\">SCEPTICS WON OVER\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOf course, there was some scepticism when the boat launched, with some criticism of the foils and the quality of the general construction.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We even put to sea with a foil missing so the skippers could check their efficiency!<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was an uncomfortable moment, but the result was unequivocal and we heard no more about it\u2026<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gradually the skippers began to realize that, while a smaller boat, she outperformed the Figaro\u00a02 on every point, sometimes 3\u20135 knots faster, wasn\u2019t that expensive to buy, came in at the projected weight\u2026<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We told them all that when we presented our project.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Except for the trimmer on the keel, we stuck to our original proposal, and everybody did their job.\u201d<\/span><br style=\"font-weight: 400;\" \/><br style=\"font-weight: 400;\" \/><b><strong><span style=\"color: #698698;\">ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By the end of the year there should be a hundred or so boats on the water and of course there is room for improvement, but Beneteau follows up on every reported issue.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The only really big problem is seaweed catching on the keel, which forces the skippers into the water too often.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We need to find the solution.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The angle of the keel is the only aspect of the design which is really open to criticism.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And we could also make the companionway more watertight.\u201d<\/span><br style=\"font-weight: 400;\" \/><br style=\"font-weight: 400;\" \/><b><strong><span style=\"color: #698698;\">ADDITIONAL TRIALS\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis winter Beneteau will be carrying out additional trials on our own Figaro\u00a03.
