At this year\u2019s show, which has just finished, we unveiled\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/en\/cruising\/seaffinity\/\"><em>Seaffinity<\/em><\/a>, a streamlined concept trimaran which embodies our vision for the superyacht of the future. Silent, partially automated and powered by the wind,\u00a0<em>Seaffinity<\/em>\u00a0features two\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/en\/speciaux\/oceanwings\/\">Oceanwings<\/a>, those automated and reefable soft wingsails designed by VPLP and currently developed by the company\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ayro.fr\/\">Ayro<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This multihull is, according to the keywords chosen to guide the project, \u201cdaring, symbolic and soaring\u201d. She\u2019s the new addition to the line of concept boats released in recent years by VPLP Design, including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/en\/plaisance\/manifesto\/\"><em>Manifesto<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/en\/plaisance\/w-y-evidence\/\"><em>Evidence<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/en\/maritime\/komorebi-200-wingsails-exploration-trimaran\/\"><em>Komorebi<\/em><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vplp.fr\/en\/plaisance\/ampersand\/\"><em>Ampersand<\/em><\/a>. Together, they represent our stance on questions of naval architecture and the environment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first concept we released was\u00a0<em>Manifesto<\/em>, a name we didn\u2019t choose at random, insofar as we wanted her to be\u00a0<strong>a veritable statement of intent on our part<\/strong>,\u201d says\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/mathias-maurios-84702759\/?originalSubdomain=fr\">Mathias Maurios<\/a>, head of VPLP\u2019s Yachting Division. \u201cWe wanted to offer an alternative to those catamarans that look like layer cakes and seem to stand between the sailor and his element. Our goal was quite the opposite, that the boat should integrate itself into its environment, hence the choice of a wider beam to make for a more stable yacht which is closer to the water, with plenty of natural ventilation and light.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Seaffinity<\/em>\u00a0is the latest demonstration of the VPLP\u2019s values, and\u00a0<strong>an opportunity to undertake a company-wide discussion<\/strong>\u00a0on the naval architecture of tomorrow. \u201c<em>Seaffinity<\/em>\u00a0is a clear indication of our determination to exceed expectations and\u00a0<strong>promote our collective creativity<\/strong>,\u201d says Mathias Maurios. \u201cWe are often asked about the pertinence of our strategy to publish concept boats, and we always reply that they are\u00a0<strong>an ideal way of moving beyond the projects in development<\/strong>\u00a0at the firm. This approach allows us to discuss among ourselves the direction vessel design seems to be taking in a world facing multiple environmental issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As with other concepts developed by VPLP Design,\u00a0<em>Seaffinity<\/em>\u00a0benefited from input from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/patrick-le-qu%C3%A9ment-a4a7bb10\/\">Patrick le Qu\u00e9ment<\/a>, a designer who has been bringing to the world of recreational sailing his experience in producing concept cars for industry giants such as Renault. \u201cWe are always delighted to get feedback from the market,\u201d says Patrick le Qu\u00e9ment, \u201cbut we also believe that\u00a0<strong>we should \u2018listen from a distance\u2019<\/strong>. If we only act in accordance with wishes of our customers, we risk adopting a \u2018me too\u2019 approach which would prevent us from exploring inspirational concepts.
