Friendship Ambulance

This boat is the fruit of a meeting in 2004 between Marc Van Peteghem and Yves Marre, co-founder of the NGO Friendship which provides assistance to the vulnerable populations of Bangladesh. Initially, the organization had shipped out a French barge to turn it into a floating hospital. Together, Marc and Yves subsequently designed a motor-catamaran ambulance that could navigate the shallow waters in the region. The idea was to transport urgent medical teams and equipment to the most inaccessible parts of the Ganges Delta.

Two ambulances were built in a yard set up especially for the occasion, using local Bangladeshi workers and materials. Marc Van Peteghem and Yves Marre then decided to take the project further with the creation of Watever, an NGO aimed at developing “Useful Floating Solutions” for impoverished populations living along the banks of the river.
